Mission Statement
The mission of the Lucio Middle School Library program is to ensure that students, teachers,
administrators, and staff are efficient and effective users of ideas and information by providing
intellectual and physical access to materials in print and electronic format while promoting literacy.
In order to accomplish our mission, LMS Library is dedicated to ensure a well-rounded, culturally
diverse, and relevant collection of resources in both print and digital formats thus providing
curriculum support for all content areas of instruction while creating information literate users.
Library Hours [Monday – Friday] from [7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.]
Students are welcome to use the library facilities to enhance their education by reading, checking
out books, completing projects, conducting research, and utilizing computer educational-based
applications such as: Accelerated Reader, Brainhive, EbscoHost, Britannica School, BrainPop,
TexQuest, etc.
Hours are subject to change if deemed necessary. Students will be informed of these changes
s they occur.
Library Rules for Students
1. Be courteous and polite to all students, staff, and visitors in the library.
2. Use a quiet voice so as to not disturb other students and staff.
3. Students must have an ID to use the library computers and/or check out library materials.
IDs will be given out to students by teachers for checkout purposes. IDs must be returned
to his/her teacher before the class ends.
4. No backpacks in the shelves when looking for a book! Leave backpacks on the floor placed
toward the center of the table. This will keep walkways clear for wheelchairs and students
on crutches.
5. Leave the shelves the way you found them. If you notice anything that needs our attention,
let the librarian or librarian's assistant know.
6. Do not shelve books! Leave books in the assigned book cart. Do not put books on top of
shelves, inside the shelves, or on the floor. The librarian and/or assistant will return all library
items to their proper place.
7. Book(s) will be checked out and returned weekly before a fine of $.05 is automatically assessed.
Maximum fine=$3.00 which is waived if a lost book is paid for.
8. Students will be given a printed notice immediately upon checkout. This will indicate when their
books are due and if any fines were assessed.
9. Students needing additional time may recheck/renew the book before school, during lunch, or
after school until 4:00 pm.
10. Do not take materials from the library without first checking them out at the circulation desk.
11. Because this is your library, it is expected that you help keep the library neat and clean by
throwing away paper, etc. in the receptacles (trash cans) provided.
12. No food or drink in the library! Staff meetings and other student events are the exception.
13. During the grade-assigned lunch period, lunch passes will be given to teachers/staff on duty.
30 is the maximum passes given. Librarian and assistant follow the "first come, first served"
rule.
14. Library will be closed during lunch periods only when a class/meeting is in session.
Student Library Passes
1. The library has an "Open Door" policy. Students may come to the library any time during the
day with an approved library pass. Teachers must indicate on the pass the reason for the student
visit and how long he/she is allowed to stay.
2. "Library" passes from substitute teachers are not accepted unless he/she is a permanent
substitute. Teachers need to place these approved passes inside his/her substitute folder.
Computer Rules for Students
1. Students must have an "Internet Parental Permission Form" on file in order to access the Internet.
2. Students must use the Internet appropriately at all times.
3. Students found violating the A.U.P. and/or violating any rules in the student handbook may be
sent directly to the office if the infraction is deemed severe enough.
Overdue Fines for Students
**Books: $.05 cents/day for a maximum fine of $3.00 which is waived if a lost book is paid for.**
Lost or Damaged Library Material
1. All Library patrons are responsible for items checked out in their own name and must reimburse
the school for any "Lost" or "Damaged" materials."
2. Fees will be assessed depending on the condition of book or item.
General Library Charges
1. Xerox Machine—10 cents |All computer printouts must be approved by library staff BEFORE
printing.
2. Computer Printouts— Free when it is an assignment/project for school.
3, Computer Printouts—.10 cents for personal printing in black and white / .50 cents for color
School IDs
All students at Lucio Middle School are expected to have a school ID.
1. IDs are required for checkouts and Internet usage.
2. Student IDs are given to teachers for STAAR testing purposes.
3. The charge for parents requesting a student ID is $3.00.

specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction.
